Robert Stanley Jacobsen was born March 10, 1931, in Clinton, Iowa, to Jacob and Evelyn (Whiting) Jacobsen. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1950. Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country in the Korean War, where he earned many honors and recognitions. Bob married the love of his life, Joyce, on Aug. 10, 1957, in Clinton at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., with a doctor of dental surgery degree in 1964. He practiced dentistry in Marion from 1964 to 1995, and his patients remember him fondly.
During that time Bob introduced and conducted CPR training for the Marion Fire and Rescue Department. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America in many roles. After retirement he spent time as an assistant football coach for the Linn-Mar Lions. Joyce and Bob divided their time between Iowa and Florida, enjoying the winter months in the sunshine.
Bob and Joyce shared 57 wonderful married years together. They were best friends, the definition of soul mates and Joyce was by his side through the end. There was no greater joy for Bob than to be with his family. Spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren were the highlights of his life.
He was a kind and gentle man who carried a strong and abiding love for his family. Bob was a protector of all who had the honor of being in his life. He set an example of how to be a loving father with his faith and values for all of his children. His love will continue in his family.
Bob brought laughter to all with his wonderful sense of humor. He loved golfing and spending time with his friends. He will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
Memorials may be donated directly to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Wounded Warriors Project in Bob's memory.
