Robert J. Kucharski, 91, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away April 5, 2024. A visitation will be held Friday, April 12 from 9 am until the funeral mass, 10 am at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gertrude “Trudy” Goller; children, Kathryn Kucharski and Michael (Kelle) Kucharski; son-in-law, Eric Martz; grandchildren, Kathryn Adams, Ryan (Sarah) Olson, Stacia Olson, Devin (Linsay) Olson; great-grandchildren, Haedyn, Wrenli, Rory, Reegan and Lexi; brother, Russell (Boksoon) Kucharski; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Richard Gilson) Garlock; stepchildren, Daniel (Ayako) Goller, Michael (Mimi) Goller, Christopher (Amy) Goller, John (Karen) Goller, Mary Clare (David Costolo) Goller; stepgrandchildren, Grace, Kyle, Vivian, Lily, Gabriel, Annie, Jack, Frances, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; sons, David Kucharski and Mark Kucharski; sister, Dorothy (Larry) Dorobialski; and niece, Lori Dorobiaski.
Bob retired from Iowa Electric as Treasurer and Controller after 20 years. He served on many boards and gave generously of his time. He served as Chairman of the Board for All Saints Parish Foundation, Cedar Rapids Junior Achievement, United Way of East Central Iowa, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. He was on the Board of Directors for Cedar Rapids Symphony Association, National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library, Archdiocese of Dubuque Investment Committee and Financial Council.
Bob received several awards for his service. He was awarded the Junior Achievement National Bronze, Silver and Gold Leadership Awards; United Way, John Northcott Award for Outstanding Leadership; Association of Fundraising Professionals, Benjamin Franklin Award for Philanthropy; Daybreak Rotary of Cedar Rapids Community Service Award and was inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
After Bob’s son, Mark, passed away, he became involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters. He made a lifelong friend, Jerry Merritt.
