He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis L. and Mary G. (Dwyer) Bucklin; four brothers, Bill Bucklin, Patrick Bucklin, Mike Bucklin and Tim Bucklin; two sisters, Mary Conger and Patricia Bucklin; and brother-in-law, Bernie Conger.
Robert (Bob) was born the son of Francis and Mary Bucklin on Sept. 15, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Wendy on Dec. 22, 2001. Bob and Wendy became friends when they were 12 years old, but as adults they followed separate paths until they were reunited in January 2000. Prior to that, Bob was married to Sarah (Fahnle) Essig.
Bob sold insurance for a period, but the majority of his life's work was dedicated to the car and truck industry. Bob began his career at Gene's DX in Cedar Rapids as a teenager and ended his career after 17 years with Hunter Engineering, where he was a manufacturer's representative. Bob had a quick wit and loved a good joke. He most enjoyed playing golf and spending time with friends and family.
The family is especially grateful to Dr. Ann Stroh and all the nurses and staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center; Dr. Tim Sagers; and so many other doctors and nurses over the years who cared for Bob.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family or to Mercy Medical Center Foundation, Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.
Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
