Robert "Bob" Emil Heaverlo, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 27, 2016, following a short illness at his home, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Agnes (Hilina) Heaverlo. He graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School in 1939. After high school, he served in the Army for three years, then went on to work for Wilson and Co. for the next 42 years. In 1948, he married his love, Katy. They purchased a farm together in 1955 near Masonville, where they farmed for 35 years. Bob and Katy moved back to Cedar Rapids in 1990.
Bob was preceded in death by his lovely wife; his parents; his brothers, Francis, Clarence and Vernon "Chuck" Heaverlo; and his sisters, Marie Cassel, Betty Gearhart, Shirley Fultz and Gen Megan.
He is survived by his children, Barbara (David) Slaven of Montezuma, Michael (Patty) Heaverlo of Buffalo, N.Y., Margaret "Peggy" (Calvin) Roudabush of Brooklyn, Iowa, Joseph (Angel) Heaverlo of Sweetwater, Tenn., and Gary (Erin Stokesberry) Heaverlo of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Michelle (Joshua) Hanson, Nicholas Slaven, Brian Slaven, Brandon (Candice) Heaverlo, Chase Heaverlo, Jennifer (Tony) Perez, Julie (Jared) Leverington, Joshua Roudabush, John Roudabush and Jessie Hawkins; and his great-grandchildren, Drake, Cooper and Nash Hanson, Logan, Harvey and Wyatt Heaverlo, Keegan, Kylie and Kolin Perez and Zachary and Lucas Leverington.
Bob also is survived by his brother, Richard (Jean) Heaverlo; his sisters, Agnes Darrow, Therese Burns and Nancy Heaverlo; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a public visitation at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel at 4 p.m. Monday, May 30. The funeral Mass will be at St. Patrick's Church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31. Father Neinhaus will be officiating.
