Robert H. Schmiedel, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Robert was born on Sept. 23, 1940, in Winona, Minn., the son of Gilbert O. and Harriet (Updegraph) Schmiedel. On Aug. 28, 1959, he was united in marriage to Sharon Lockhart at Charles City, Iowa. Robert worked as an engineering writer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 34 years, retiring in 1996. He enjoyed his cottage in Guttenberg and spending the winter months in Texas for many years. Robert also liked fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sharon of Cedar Rapids; and son, Daniel Schmiedel of Windsor Heights.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Joseph; and brothers, Gilbert and Edward.
