Robert R. "Bob" Garlow, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital Hospice Unit. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Bob was born on Sept. 28, 1935, in Colesburg, Iowa, the son of Dale and Naomi (Hansel) Garlow. He was a 1954 graduate of Colesburg High School. Bob served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. Bob and Mary Schultz were married in 1960. The couple later divorced. Bob retired from National Oats, where he worked for 40 years. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and attending his grandson's baseball games. Bob was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. He enjoyed caring for his backyard friends, the squirrels and birds. He will be remembered as one who was always willing to help others.
Survivors include one daughter, Tina Garlow of Farina, Ill.; one son, Alan Garlow of Marion; one grandson, Ross Garlow of Marion; two sisters, Ann Conrad of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Karol (Steve) Brown of Palo; one brother, David (Jackie) Garlow of West Union; sister-in-law, Bonnie Garlow of Guttenberg; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ms. Denice Haehlen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Donald and Larry Garlow and Eugene Hansel.
