Robert G. Dostal, 83, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022.
Graveside committal will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation.
Robert was born June 29, 1939, in Iowa City, the son of George and Margaret (Frye) Dostal.
He received a bachelor’s degree in religion and mathematics and a master’s degree in mathematics.
During his college years he was employed at University of Iowa Hospital School for Handicapped Children.
Subsequently, he worked at White Sands Missile Range and U.S. Army Material Training Command at Rock Island Arsenal as a mathematician for the Quality Control Training Program.
Robert was a model train enthusiast and provided numerous technical articles for model railroading magazines. He often contributed to the Iowa City Press-Citizen “Letters to the Editor.”
Robert is survived by two brothers, William (Janice) Dostal of Iowa City and John (Julie) Dostal of St. Francisville, La.; nephews, Alan (Janann) Dostal, Thomas (Sheri) Dostal, Steve (Michele) Dostal and David Dostal; and niece, Lisa (Dostal) Aylstock and husband Bryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Thomas Jerome Dostal.
