Robert Hugh Flanders, 82, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of McGregor, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at his home in Cedar Rapids. He was born Sept. 23, 1932, in McGregor, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Hazel (McGuire) Flanders.

Robert graduated from Mar-Mac High School in 1950. He was united in marriage to Joyce Copper in 1953 in Ferryville, Wis. To this union three children were born: Cindy, Robert D. and Dion. Robert worked at FMC LinkBelt.

Robert enjoyed traveling and watching the Chicago Bears. Most of all, Robert cared deeply about his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Robert is survived by his three children, Cindy Flanders and her husband, Patrick Brown, of Bettendorf, Robert D. Flanders of New Berlin, Wis., and Dion Christofi and her husband, Laz, of Boca Raton, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Zach Strother of North Carolina, Alissa Strother-Peck of Austin, Texas, and Katharine Brown of Minneapolis.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Flanders, on Oct. 4, 2005; parents, Lyle and Hazel (McGuire) Flanders; and brother, William Flanders.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at St. Mary Catholic Church, McGregor, with the Rev. Nils de Jesus Hernandez as the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour before Mass at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in McGregor, with military honors following the Mass of Christian Burial.
