Robert Eugene Martin passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Lake of the Ozarks, MO, at the age of 89.
Bob was born on January 17, 1935, in Blairstown, IA, to Joseph and Marcella (Simmons) Martin. He grew up on the family farm in Blairstown before moving to Traer in 1950. He graduated from North Tama High School in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernice (Bradley) Martin on May 5, 1955.
After graduation, Bob worked at Cas Feed Store. In 1959, he went to work for Clutier Grain and Feed where he became Manager in 1961 until his retirement in 2005.
Bob and Bernice raised their family together in Traer until Bernice’s death in 1984. In 1986, Bob met Irma Podhajsky and they enjoyed many years together until recent health issues kept them apart.
Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends; family boating vacations to Lake of the Ozarks; traveling with Irma to California, Arizona, and Florida; playing poker and pepper; and watching football, basketball, and golf on TV.
Bob is survived by his longtime companion Irma Podhajsky; brother Richard Martin (Dixie Martin); daughters Valerie Suchomel (Mark Pokorny), Kimberlie (Jim) Thede, and Julie (Douglas) Steffeny; granddaughters Brooke (Brent Knapp) Suchomel, Jessica Thede (Mark McMahon), and Breanne Thede (fiancé Jordan Hanlon); grandsons Nathan Suchomel, Devyn Steffeny (fiancé Alexandra Reveron), Dain Steffeny (fiancé Jade Watson), Dayton (Klarissa) Steffeny, Justin (Sydney) Steffeny, and Jaxtin Steffeny (fiancé Alexis Huebener); great-grandson Kipton Hanlon; and great-granddaughter Stella Bea Hanlon.
Bob was preceded in death by wife Bernice Martin; son Michael Martin; parents Joseph and Marcella Martin; brothers Russel Martin and Donald Martin; sister Marjorie Vohoska; and grandson Matthew Suchomel.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Traer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
