Robert M. Drake, 87, Cedar Rapids, passed away July 29, 2018, at Cottage Grove Place after a short illness. Per Robert's wishes, there will be no services at this time.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Cheryl Van Hagen of Boulder City, Nev.; two grandsons; and a brother, Cloyd Drake of Hartford City, Ind.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mable Drake.
Robert Maurice Drake was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Indianapolis, Ind. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Robert began a career at Collins Radio in 1953 that continued until his retirement in 1986. Robert married the love of life, Karen Hagberg, on April 4, 1959, in Waterloo. He had been licensed ham radio operator since January 1949, a hobby he enjoyed. Robert was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the ARRL (American Radio Relay League), the American Diabetes Association and had been a chairperson of the neurological support group in Cedar Rapids since April 1986.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
