Robert Herman Deklotz, 92, died March 19, 2015, at Dobson House Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, Ariz., following an extended illness. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel
in Vinton, with the Rev. Mark Leckband officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday. Commital services will be at St. John Cemetery near Newhall.
Robert was born Aug. 17, 1922, near Shellsburg to Edward J. and Minnie (Hessenius) Deklotz and graduated in 1942 from the Shellsburg Community Schools. On Nov. 19, 1943, he was united in marriage to Faye Erland. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2007.
Robert farmed in the Shellsburg area for 50 years. He played with Ed's Accordion Band, Louis Deklotz Band and others for more than 25 years.
In 1989, he moved to Chandler, Ariz., where he was employed at Pamalco and Alcoa before retiring at the age of 82.
In addition to his wife, Faye, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry; his brother, Louis; and his son-in-law, David King.
Robert is survived by his son, Dennis (Nancy) Deklotz of Shellsburg; his daughter, Diane King of Chandler, Ariz.; his grandchildren, Ann Goodell of Cedar Rapids, Scott (Jill) Deklotz of Shellsburg, Nathan (Tanya) Deklotz of Cedar Rapids, Michael King of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Anthea (Joseph) Pascual of New York; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth (Barb) Deklotz of Delhi; and his sister-in-law, Peg Deklotz of Cedar Rapids.
