Robert “Dean” Jeter, 75, lifelong resident and former businessman in Iowa City, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dean’s memory to Camp Courageous (12007 190th. Robert Dean Jeter was born Sept. 16, 1947, in Iowa City, the son of Robert H. and Theresa A. (Klein) Jeter. Growing up in Iowa City, he attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School with the Class of 1966. On June 13, 1970, Dean married Janice M. Zenisek in Solon. Before joining his parents at working at Plamor Lanes, Dean worked at Iowa Gas & Electric.
Dean enjoyed memberships to the Johnson County I Club, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and St. Patricks Catholic Church. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Dean enjoyed camping, family vacations to Wisconsin and trips to Jamaica with Jan. Dean loved his family and his many friends from over the years.
His family includes his wife, Jan; their four sons, Mark Jeter (DeaDra), Phil Jeter (Andrea), John Jeter and Jim Jeter; grandchildren, Peyton, Gavin, Jadyn and Katlyn; brother, David Jeter (Pati); and other sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon Jeter, Nancy Grady (Dan), Joe Zenisek (Susan), Jim Zenisek (Deb), Andy Zenisek (Jan), Rita Kunkel (Ron) and Theresa Loustch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis “Peach” Jeter; and brother-in-law, Bruce Zenisek.
