Robert M. Coppess Jr., 93, passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021. There will be a memorial service at a later date with burial in the Stanwood Cemetery including military rites.
Bob was born April 4, 1927, in Stanwood, Iowa, to Robert Maxwell Sr. and Alma Simmons Coppess. He married Patricia Crock on Aug. 20, 1950, at the Stanwood Methodist Church. She passed away Jan.
16, 2015.
Survivors include sons, Robert M. (Max) III (Grace) of Stanwood, Michael W. (Sue) of Indianola, David L. (Deana) of Lake of the Ozarks, W. Brent (Debbie) of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Brian B. (Patty) of Gunnison, Colo., and Cameron S. (Becky) of West Des Moines; daughter, M. Dawn (Tom) Weiland of Stanwood; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife and grandson, Quentin Coppess.
Bob was a lifetime farmer raising both crops and livestock. He was an avid aviator and was a private pilot for over 55 years. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a past commander of the Hegarty-Busching Legion Post 348 in Stanwood. Bob sold Moorman's Feed in earlier years and was a Cyclone, Cubs and race fan. He enjoyed traveling with Pat, going to his kid's activities, and was a lifelong member of the Stanwood Union Church.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff and administrators of Cedar Manor Care Facility, Tipton, Iowa, for the loving care and support they provided their Dad.
