Robert Merland (Buckeye, Clem) Clemenson, 80, of Montrose, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, surrounded by his family.
Bob was born April 3, 1934, in Montrose, the son of Carl C. and Olive (Waider) Clemenson. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Shangri-La from 1956 to 1958, and served in Naval Reserve Surface Division 9-52 for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his children, Tammy (Mike) Koolbeck and Scott (Carmen) Clemenson of Cedar Rapids and Tony (Sheri) Clemenson of Norwalk, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tyler Koolbeck, Chloe and Cody Clemenson and Isabelle and Maggie Clemenson; and brother, Bernard (Norma) Clemenson of Quincy, Ill.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial, with military rites, will be in Montrose Cemetery.
The family requests no flowers.
Memorials may be directed to the Keokuk Animal Shelter or American Cancer Society.
His family would like to thank all those who have shared their love, support and friendship during Bob's illness. Special thanks to the seventh floor nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center who cared for Bob during two hospitalizations the past year, the Great River Hospice staff while at home and to the staff at the Hospice House of Mercy for the dignity they granted Bob during his final days.
