ROBERT CHASE SHIREMAN
Marion
Robert Chase Shireman (Bob), 83, of Marion, Iowa, passed away at home after a battle with Parkinson's and cancer on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018. Bob was born on April 7, 1935, the son of Albert C. and Marion E. Shireman. Bob attended school in Cedar Rapids and Central City, graduating from Central City High School. He served in the U.S. Army and attended college at the University of Illinois.
Bob is survived by his family: His devoted wife of 61 years, Shirley (Kelso) Shireman; his children, Gregory C. (Julie) Shireman of Des Moines and Stephany (Don) Henderson of West Des Moines; his grandchildren, Spencer C. (Hailey) Shireman, Blaire (Nicholas) Hinkle, Chase and Drew Henderson; and great-grandchildren, Bennett C. and Nolan C. Shireman.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Jill Shireman; and grandson, Carter C. Shireman.
During his childhood, he enjoyed time at his parents' home in Cedar Rapids and their farm in Waubeek, Iowa. Bob loved his time in the country. He was a devoted family man, dropping any priority he had to help his children. Bob's home at Lake of the Ozarks was his piece of paradise. His greatest joy was having family at the lake house and made sure every toy was available to ensure his family's happiness. Bob retired from Oscar Mayer Foods after a successful 30-year career. He created and managed his own company, Marion Diversified Enterprises, which continues to be in business.
Bob taught his family to always put others ahead of themselves and reminded them "If you're going to do it, do it right." On Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, we will "do it right" by honoring a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, with the service following at 11 a.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Marion, Iowa.
May we all leave the legacy and standards which drove Robert Chase Shireman to be the man that he was.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Bob's memory to aboveandbeyondcancer.org or Camp Courageous.
