Robert M. Carter, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at his home. Per Bob's request there will be no visitation. Graveside services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Mary) of West Des Moines and Barry (Nicole) of Cedar Rapids. He also is survived by two grandchildren, Kevin Carter and Sarah Murdock; and a great-grandson, Joseph Murdock.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James; and a sister, Barbara.
Bob was born July 26, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the son of James and Eunice Dobson Carter. He married Gladys M. Jerome on Aug. 2, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. Gladys passed away in 1983. He later married Phyllis Andre on June 9, 1984. Phyllis passed away in 2008.
Bob graduated from the University of Iowa. He was an engineer at Boeing Aircraft on the B-29 project and later worked at FMC, retiring from there after many years of service.
Besides his engineering background, Bob also was an excellent builder and wood craftsman. He constructed over 16 homes in the Cedar Rapids area and built the Hawaiian Room at Brucemore and helped build Howard Hall's home at Palisades Park.
He was a member of First Congregational Church, the Masons and Eastern Star.
His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
