Robert Jerry Carriger, son of Floyd Wilbert and Joella Evans Carriger, was born Dec. 19, 1938, in Hartville, Mo. He departed this life surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, in Nixa Nursing and Rehab, at the age of 77 years, one month and 12 days.
On Sept. 5, 1959, Robert was united in marriage to Priscilla Helen Burris and to this union two children were born.
His parents and a brother, Howard Carriger, preceded him in death.
Robert is survived by his wife, Priscilla of the home; a daughter, Lawana Ahrendsen and husband Michael of Cedar Rapids; a son, Steve Carriger and wife Sheri Albrecht of Walford; grandchildren, Erick Ahrendsen, Alaina Kote, Jordan Ahrendsen, Colton Carriger and Travis Carriger; great-granddaughter, Arabella Kote; brother, Earl Carriger and wife Janet, of Grovespring, Mo.; three sisters, Dorthy Robertson and husband Russell of Hartville, Mo., Wilma Squires and husband J.O. of Grand Junction, Colo., and Lois Carriger of West Plains, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Tammy Carriger, of Hartville, Mo.; special friends, Dave and Linda Schulte of Cedar Rapids; a number of nieces, nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many other dear friends.
Robert spent his younger years living in the Hartville area and was a graduate of Hartville High School in the class of 1957. Robert went to work for Mid-America Dairy and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1974 to continue his employment there. He retired from Dairy Farmers of America in 1999 and shortly after he and Priscilla moved to Grovespring. Robert and Priscilla later moved to Springfield in 2014 to make their home.
Robert had accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized on Dec. 8, 1963. He was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on the family farm with his brothers, tending to the cattle and riding his four-wheeler. His dog, Mac, was always by his side. Robert and Priscilla loved to travel and had visited many interesting places, but one of his favorite trips was to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
In his younger years, Robert was an avid elk, deer and quail hunter and had spent time hunting in Colorado as well as various other locations. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and attended many games throughout his life.
Family was very important to Robert and he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Hartville, Mo. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Little Creek Cemetery, Hartville. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Hartville.
