Robert Harold Burgess, 73, of Washington, Ind., died Tuesday, June 7, 2016. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with visitation one hour before the service.
Robert was born June 26, 1942, the son of Theodore and Marietta Burgess in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the U.S. Navy. Robert worked for P & H Crane for 14 years and also was head groundskeeper for Sunny Side Schools. On June 29, 2000, he was married to Barbara Volkman in Tucson, Ariz.
Robert greatly enjoyed the outdoors. Some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, archery and card playing. He had a love of horses and would ride every year in the Rodeo Parade in Tucson.
Robert was very much a family man and loved spending time with them and friends. He had a gentleness about him and will be missed by all those who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burgess; two sons, Scott (Alicia) Burgess and Jeff (Alesia) Burgess; stepson, David Ray; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Janet) Burgess; two sisters, Bonnie Shipp and Daisy Tolkheim; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom Burgess.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Robert's memory.
