ROBERT (BOBBY) FRANK HATHAWAY JR. Cedar Rapids Robert (Bobby) Frank Hathaway Jr., 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away suddenly due to complications of a stroke on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Cremation is under the direction of Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Service of Cedar Rapids. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Bobby from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Karen & Jerry's home, 4021 Old Ferry Rd., Palo. Food and drink will be provided. Bobby was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Robert and Bonnie (Kephart) Hathaway Sr., on July 31, 1951. He attended Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. He married Diane Starr on July 29, 1989. They would have celebrated their 28th anniversary this year. Also surviving are son, Jamey Hathaway (Sarah); daughter, Stephanie Roberts (Matt); two stepsons, Andy and Casey (Pamela) Welbourne; sister, Nancy (Jim) Kloubec; brother, Ronnie Davis; grandchildren, Tatum, Tucker, Nash, Elijah, Payton, Tyler, Colton, Ellie, Abel and Dash; many nieces and nephews; and his special fur friend, Bear. He was preceded in death by his parents. He spent most of his career in sales, which led him to own and operate Sinclair Gas Station in Cedar Hills, own and operate D&B Express with his wife, Diane, and his final "keep me busy job," driving for Iowa Express. He had a "do it my way" attitude that would positively impact many youths in his coaching career with the Cedar Hills Booster Club. He liked anything fast, but especially go-kart racing and racing hobby stock No. 61 for many years at Hawkeye Downs. Bobby lived life to the fullest and was a fun-loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the SNICU doctors and nurses for their extra care and support. In lieu of flowers. a memorial fund has been established.
