Robert “Bob” Wesley Louvar, 91, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at the Westridge Care Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted.
Robert was born June 15, 1932, in Saratoga, the son of Wesley and Lillie (Horstman) Louvar. He graduated from Wilson High School. Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from August 1952 to August 1954. He married his high school sweetheart Mildred “Millie” Miller on March 28, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. He was a sheet metal worker/supervisor when he retired from Quaker Oats Co. in 1993. He was earlier employed by Penick & Ford Ltd and Ladco Co. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, dancing, occasionally going to the casino and, most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be dearly missed by all.
Bob is survived by his children, Lonnie (Paula) Louvar of Miles, Debra (Terry) Bright of Atkins and Steve (Jackie) Louvar of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Gina, Zach, Leeann, Stefanie, Morgan, Mitch, Michelle and Carl; 13 great-grandchildren, Josephine, Rosalie, Aiden, Kaydence, Rylan, Nolan, Aria, Rowen, Gwendolyn, Kenley, Madisyn, Brooklyn and Joshua; his brothers, Al (Holly) Louvar and Gary (Sandy) Louvar; and his sisters in-law, Jean Louvar, Judy Rich and Janice Patten.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Millie; his brother, Dick Louvar; his brothers in-law, Wilbur Miller and Harold Miller; sister-in-law, Marlene (Vern) Schrimper; and an infant son.
