Robert "Bob" Sheetz, 64, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at his home in North Liberty. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Lensing Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville.
A memorial bench will be erected in Bob's honor at Swiss Valley Park in Dubuque County. In lieu of flowers, donations to the park memorial may be made to Jeanne Sheetz, 480 Lockmoor Ave., North Liberty, IA 52317.
Bob was born Aug. 22, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Hubert and Philomena Bombei Sheetz. He was raised on the family farm near Keota. Bob achieved the rank of sergeant and served as a B-52 bomber crew chief in the U.S. Air Force in Guam and Thailand during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1974. Bob was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 1972 for meritorious service for exemplary leadership and personal endeavor and devotion to duty. Bob received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1995 and was employed by Farm Mutual as a property insurance claims adjuster for over 28 years.
On Jan. 10, 1998, Bob married Jeanne Speaker. Together they shared a love of family and the outdoors. Bob was an avid swimmer, runner, hunter and fisherman.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jeanne of North Liberty; and stepchildren, Jill (Ross) Nusser and Blair Gretter, both of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Harper and Thorson Nusser; four siblings: twin brother, Rex (Kristi) Sheetz, Carolita Sheetz and Jerry (Rita) Sheetz, all of Keota, and Mary Ann (Scott) Cumings of Severance, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
