Robert Vincent "Bob" Rider, 75, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Mark C. Urlaub officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. Private family inurnment will be held in Rowley Cemetery at a later date.
Bob was born Dec. 18, 1942, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Robert Vincent and Pearl Louise Finley Rider. He was a 1961 graduate of Rowley High School.
On Nov. 11, 1960, Bob was united in marriage with Luetta Merldene Jones at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence.
Bob was a member of Millwright and Technical Engineers Local Union 2158 of Moline, Ill., and worked as a millwright and general foreman at DAEC in Palo. Later, he owned and operated Rider Auction Service in Vinton.
Bob and Luetta raised and raced greyhounds. He also raced stock cars when he was younger.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Luetta of Vinton; three sons, Kelly (Denise) Rider of El Paso, Texas, Vincent (Rhonda) Rider of Clarence and Robert Rider Jr. of Vinton; one daughter, Lisa Rider of Vinton; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Anthony Rider; one brother, Floyd "Red" Rider; and one sister, Dorothy DeMoss.
A memorial fund has been established.
