Bob was preceded in death by his wife, and two sisters, Karen Swanson and Judy Smith.
Robert Pearl Lanz was born on May 8, 1928, in Bassett, Nebr., the son of Ernest and Rhoda (Saddoris) Lanz. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Bob met the love of his life at the age of 15 and was united in marriage to Josephine “Josie” M. Young on February 15, 1948, in Osceola, Iowa. They were happily married for 75 years.
After his time in the Navy, Bob worked at several different jobs, including painting and wallpapering, and owning a gas station, until he landed a job with a linen supply company, F.W. Means and Company. He worked at F.W. Means in Osceola, Mason City, and Cedar Rapids until 1979 when he and Josie moved to Buena Vista, Colo., to purchase and run a successful business. Their retirement years were spent in North Aurora, Ill., Kingman, Ariz., and Cedar Rapids.
Bob was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting small game and fishing. He went on canoe trips and camping with his family and worked with the Boy Scouts. Bob also enjoyed square dancing and playing cards with the love of his life and friends. Additional pastimes included gardening, watching and feeding birds, and rock and coin collecting; but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Memorials may be directed to Salem United Methodist Church in Robert’s name.
