Robert “Bob” Morgan Stepanek, 82, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Dec. 26, 2022. A visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1000 Third Ave. SE, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra; his daughter, Laurie and son-in-law, Mike White of Washington, D.C.; and his brothers, Bill and Don of Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born to Roy and Betty Stepanek in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1957 and began working weekends and summers at Universal Engineering while in high school, following in his father’s footsteps. He continued working full time at Universal while attending the University of Iowa, and was hired as Assistant Chief Engineer. He led the design and development of the Universal Engineering Hammermills Shredder. He holds several patents related to scrap and automobile shredders. After retiring from Universal in 2000, Bob did design and consulting work for ESCO of Portland, Ore.
Bob was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Buick Club of America, and the Riviera Owners Association. He took great pride in his cars and showed them in regional car shows. He was an avid Hawkeyes and Yankees fan. Bob enjoyed annual family trips to Wyoming and Colorado, and especially to the beaches of Sanibel Island.
Memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran of Cedar Rapids or Camp Courageous.
