Robert "Bob" Lewis Markley, 84, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Lisbon United Methodist Church, 200 E. Market St., where the family will greet friends one hour before the service. Military honors will follow at Lisbon Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bob was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Earl and Beulah Markley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bob married Barbara L. Freeman in 1956. To this union, three children were born, Karen, Eric and Karl. Barbara passed away in 1989. On April 24, 1993, he married Gail Horsman in Cedar Rapids. He retired from Cedarapids Inc., formerly Iowa Manufacturing, after more than 44 years as an estimator/trouble-shooter. Following his retirement, he was employed with Walmart for 10 years. Bob was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Bob is survived by his wife, Gail Markley of Cedar Rapids; children, Karen Markley-Haddy of Phoenix, Ariz., Eric (Phak) Markley of Cedar Rapids and Karl (Kim) Markley of Springville; grandchildren, Karlee (fiance Shane Carson) Markley, Kolton Markley, Ryan Haddy and Tina (Stephen) Green; great-grandson, Gannon Carson; stepchildren, Pastor Todd (Debby) Westphal of Frederick, Md., Troy (Paula) Westphal of Faribault, Minn., and Darrin (Ann) Westphal of Stewartville, Minn.; stepgrandchildren, Andrew (Hannah) Westphal, David Westphal, Catie Stewart, Cassandra (Nicholas) Latiwig, Dolton Westphal and Brennen Westphal; stepgreat-grandchildren, Elijah Westphal, Khane Smith, Katrina and Isabella Neagle and Ezra and Emora Latiwig; sisters, Margaret Jean Overland of Postville and Mary Bess (Ivan) Chester of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Markley; and brother-in-law, James Overland.
