Robert “Bob” Louis Nemecek, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 6, 2022, at home, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born in 1948 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Louis and Helen (Yuza) Nemecek. Bob married Karen Bruess on Aug. 10, 1990, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Bob graduated from Regis High School in 1966. After graduation, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, with a secondary education certification as well as a Master of Arts degree in educational psychology at the Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. Bob started his 35-year career as a social studies teacher in the Cedar Rapids Community School District at Wilson Middle School in 1970. He went on to teach at McKinley Middle School, Kennedy High School, Washington High School and Jefferson High School. Outside of the classroom, Bob sponsored many clubs and activities, including Model United Nations. Bob retired from teaching in 2006. Bob is survived by wife, Karen; and daughters, Andrea and Allison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Luanne Henik; and a brother-in-law, Donald Henik.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. A visitation will be held Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, from 4 to 6 p.m., and after 9 a.m. at the church on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
