Robert “Bob” Lloyd Carson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, where the family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Certified Celebrant Amy Hart will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Campbell Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Bob was born on May 5, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Leon Perdue and Mary Bessie (Skalicky) Carson. He was a 1960 graduate of Marshalltown High School and went on to attend Iowa State University. On Oct. 11, 1964, Bob was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Jean Horak in Lone Tree, Iowa. Bob owned and operated Carson Construction Company for nearly 60 years, specializing in underground construction. During his earlier years, he enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash music, and was passionate about going to Knoxville with his brother, Jim, and participating in Sprint Car Racing. Bob had a life-long interest in tinkering with cars and other things, until they were fixed. He enjoyed working in the garden. Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and going to their sporting events. He was a life-long loyal Chicago Bears fan. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sandy Carson of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Sheri (Ryan) Jeffery of Robins, Iowa; one son, Scott (Diane) Carson of Ely, Iowa; three grandchildren, Taylor Jeffery, Carson Jeffery, and Allison Carson; sister-in-law, Marcia Carson of Marshalltown; and three nephews, Kevin, Kurt, and Kent Carson, all of Marshalltown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James R. Carson
