ROBERT "BOB" GAYNARD BATCHELER
Central City
Robert "Bob" Gaynard Batcheler, 86, of Central City, passed away Monday, Aug.
14, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation:
4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Celebration of Life: noon Saturday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home. Burial: Jordan's Grove Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his children, Rick (Laura) Batcheler of Central City, Craig (Karen) Batcheler of Center Point, Kris (Gary) Barnes of Central City, Lyn Batcheler of Sarasota, Fla., and Steve (Angie) Batcheler of Central City; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and special companion, Dorothy Young.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Rollo and Gladice; sisters, Madelene and Shirley; and niece, Missy.
Bob was born Feb. 4, 1931, on the family farm outside of Central City, the son of Rollo and Gladice (Merritt) Batcheler. He graduated from Central City School in 1949. On Aug. 21, 1955, Bob and Elizabeth "Betty" (McGowan) were united in marriage. Bob was a dedicated farmer. He also was the co-founder and head of customer relations at IGS Elevator in Center Point. Bob was board president of REC and a school board member for Central City Community Schools. Bob announced at many horse shows and called at square dances. Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, painting, writing, cooking, calling square dances and researching genealogy. He could be found visiting with customers at IGS Elevator in Center Point.
