Robert L. Behrens, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial with military rites will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; children, Christopher (Elaine) Behrens, Lynette (Rickie) Gaffey-Sexton and Michael Behrens, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Lacey (Patrick) Gorman, Austin Behrens, Cody Behrens, Ali Arnold, Amanda Gaffey, Mitchell Gaffey, Molly Gaffey, Matthew Behrens and Natasha Behrens-Sion; and great-grandchildren, Asher and Adleigh Gorman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack.
Robert Louie Behrens was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Harry and Lucille (Pettit) Behrens. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. On Aug. 21, 1953, he married Margaret Meyers in Cedar Rapids. Robert worked at F.M.C. for 28 years and then for the Cedar Rapids Community School District as a bus driver for 23 years, until retiring in 2010. He enjoyed fishing and was extremely proud of all his grand-children. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
