Robert "Bob" William Becicka, 89, of Walford, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, surrounded by his family, on the farm where he was born, raised and worked the land. Celebration of Life services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with Brian McNeal officiating. Burial will be in Hala Cemetery
near Walford, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at Brosh Chapel.
Robert was born April 19, 1929, in rural Walford, the son of William and Agnes (Roshek) Becicka. He graduated from Walford High School, Class of 1947. Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict as a medic. He earned the Korean Services Medal with one Bronze Service Star. Robert was united in marriage to Karen Hansel on July 29, 1970, in Caledonia, Minn. Bob worked at Amana Refrigeration for more than 37 years until his retirement. He was a lifelong farmer in the Walford area. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, his pets, playing cards, listening to polka and country music, taking an occasional trip to the casino and, most of all, spending time with his family, especially the grandkids.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karen, of more than 48 years; children, Robin (Gary) Vollbrecht of Tiffin, Cherie Steckly of Tiffin, Tammy (Brian) McNeal of North Liberty, Joni (Bruce) Slycord of Cedar Rapids and Nicole Becicka (Tracy Young) of Coralville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his niece, Judy (Mike) Bibeau; and his nephew, Dan (Theresa) Holub.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Eva (Bob) Holub.
Memorials may be directed to either Hospice of Mercy or to Swisher American Legion in his name.
