Robert L. Argo, 85, of Park View, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Unity Point Health-Trinity, Bettendorf. Per Dad's request, no services are planned at this time. Entombment will take place in the Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is
assisting the family.
Robert was born Aug. 11, 1928, to Ned and Mildred Argo in Iconium,
Iowa. He was married Sept. 2, 1950. to Virda M. (Pat) Archer.
He is survived by two children, Scott Argo (Connie) of Park View and
Diana Harford (Terry) of Urbana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Bradley (Kris) of Clear Lake, Kari (Brandon) of Wichita, Kan., Ami (Jason) of Wichita, Kan., Dan of Marion, Mitch of Davenport, Brandon of Illinois, Candice of Park View and Brian (Valentina) of Norfolk, Va.; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan and Brandon, Tyler and Kayli, Kenadee and Kael, Drea and Tiera and Aiden.
He also is survived by his sister, Laura Barks (Dean); and six granddogs, Max, Maggie, JJ, Roxxy, Bailey and Tucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Virda M. (Pat) Archer; his brother, Keith Argo (Bernie); and sister. Guelda Carruthers.
Robert retired from Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Co. after 30 years of service as a commercial office representative. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. (great-grandson Tyler, active duty Marine Corps; Kari, Bradley and Connie, retired Air Force).
His life was dedicated to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Elks Lodge No. 251, having served two years as exalted ruler. He was named Elk of the Year, Member of the Year and received a Commendation Award from Grand Lodge. He was a life member of VFW Post 788.
He had a passion and talent for the craft of woodworking and created several pieces of art that are now on display in many of the surviving family members homes as well as the Elks Lodge of Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be given to either the Linn or Scott County humane
societies.
