Ruth I. Hinkel, 93, of Coralville, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City, where visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at noon at Palo Cemetery in Palo.
Ruth was born Oct. 5, 1921, in Etna Township (rural Hardin County, Iowa), the daughter of Clyde and Ethel (Shaner) Huse. She married John Hinkel on June 1, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa. John later died May 9, 2009.
Survivors include Ruth's three children, Tammy (Vernon) Werning of Newhall, Gary (Pat Herdegen) Hinkel of Savage, Minn., and Kathy Pribyl of Austin, Texas; a sister, Donna Huse of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, a sister, two sons, Jim and Russell, and a grandson, Troy Werning.
