Rita R. Swearingen, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Per Rita's request there will be no visitation or service. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Swearingen of Cedar Rapids and Tammy (Gary) Young of Georgia; and two sons, Michael (Chantelle) and Mark, both of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her two dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; a brother, Bart; and her husband.
Rita was born on July 7, 1942, in Vinton, the daughter of Ray and Evelyn Burmeister Greenwood. She graduated from Vinton High School and later from college, receiving a degree in nursing.
Rita married Albert L. Swearingen in Cedar Rapids. He passed away in 2015. She was a registered nurse in the Cedar Rapids area and retired after many years of service.
Rita enjoyed reading and especially the time spent with her friends and beloved family. She will be forever remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
