Rita Martha Anna Hiemstra, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Rita Martha Anna Reiche was born Oct. 14, 1934, to Willi and Gertrud (Bull) Reiche in Berlin, Germany. She graduated from trade school there and worked for Wella until moving to the United States.
On Dec. 31, 1953, she married Robert Hiemstra in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The couple later moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked for Wilson & Co. and J-Tech Associates until her retirement. Robert preceded her in death in January 2001.
Rita gardened every summer, fed the birds every winter, and never missed sending a birthday card to family, including great-nieces and -nephews. She and Robert loved their little poodle dogs, and enjoyed boating, camping and traveling in their RV.
She is survived by her brother, Gunter (Kay) Reiche, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.; nieces, Susan (Dave) Claypool, Parnell, Iowa, Heidi Reiche Hodges, Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Sandra (Bill) Cain, Bloomfield, Iowa, and Linda Van Zomeren of Ottumwa, Iowa; nephew, Eric (Jean) Reiche, DeForest, Wis.; and sister-in-law, Nora Joy (Don) Moore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
