Rita Margaret Kay, 98, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa. A celebration of Rita’s life is being planned for a later date.
Rita was born on Aug. 7, 1924, in Joliet, Ill., to Gustave and Esther (Johnson) Berglund. On Sept. 25, 1943, Rita married William Harrison Kay in Jacksonville, Fla. She later attended Kirkwood Nursing School and was proud to have graduated the oldest ever in their program at the age of 62. She worked as a Register Nurse for many years in various retirement homes and in home healthcare. Rita was a member of Creekside Bible Church in Marion. Iowa.
Rita is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Doug Kay of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Mathew and Robyn Lee; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Kay; and two sons, William and Thomas Kay.
