Marion
Rita Evelyn Frommelt, 89, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.
She was born in Potosi, Wis., on Oct. 5, 1932, the daughter of Rudolph and Marie (Mai) Schumacher. Rita graduated from Potosi High School in 1950 and attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Keith Frommelt on Oct. 1, 1960, at St. Thomas Church in Potosi. Following their divorce in the early 70s, she moved with her children to Dubuque. She spent her entire career in the communications field, working for AT&T in Dubuque, before relocating to Marion, Iowa, in 1981, and working for US West and Yellowbook in Cedar Rapids until her retirement. Rita later moved to Fort Dodge, where she was a resident at the time of her passing.
Rita enjoyed playing piano, bowling, playing cards (especially 500 and euchre), shopping at thrift stores, and spending time with her friends, family and grandchildren. After her retirement, she stayed active in bowling leagues and activities at the Senior Center in Marion. She especially looked forward to making Christmas cookies and candies every year with her sister, Rosemary Markus.
Survivors include her children, Timothy Frommelt and Susan (Cory) Struchen; her daughter-in-law, Jen White; granddaughters Amber, Hannah, Abigail and Sadie; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy and Marie; sister, Rosemary Markus; brothers, Charles and Robert; former husband, Keith Frommelt; brother-in-law, Richard Markus; nephew, Thomas Schumacher; and great-nephew, Jeff Markus.
There will be no public service, as Rita's Celebration of Life will be held privately by family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimers Association in her memory
