Ridder, Paul
Paul Ridder, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Neighborhood Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Jim Coyle. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Carol Thompson of Ely, Barb Ridder of Cedar Rapids and David Ridder and partner Mike Murphy of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Amanda, Adam and Alyssa Thompson; sister, Alice Crossley of Solon; sisters-in-law, Bev Ridder of Cedar Falls and Ella Marie Ridder of Garner; and special friend, Sandie Allen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Gladys Ridder.
Paul was born on March 25, 1930, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of William and Sylvia (Baumgartner) Ridder. He married Gladys Knox on Nov. 3, 1953, she passed Sept. 13, 1990. He worked as a teacher in Cedar Rapids for 45 years. Paul served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was recently inducted into the Jefferson High School Baseball Hall of Fame. Paul was a member of LADOS, where he was membership chairman, YEWS and the National Education Association. In retirement, he enjoyed dancing, traveling, dining out with friends and volunteer work. He was a lifetime Cubs fan.
