Marian Odelia Rickels
Marian Odelia Rickels, 86, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa, where a Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa.
Surviving are her children, David (Debra) of Cedar Rapids, Dan (Lynn) of Anamosa, Diane Casper of Anamosa and Dean (Dana) of Amana; two brothers, Louie Stoll and Andy (Karen) Stoll, both of Anamosa; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Rickels-Ster of Urbana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lavern; a son, Dennis; three brothers, Alphonse Jr., Justin and Loras; and a son-in-law, Jerry Casper.
Marian Odelia Stoll was born Sept. 26, 1925, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Alphonse Sr. and Elizabeth Lehmann Stoll. Marion was a 1943 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Monticello. After high school she received her teaching certificate and went on to teach in Jones County for eight years. On Nov. 25, 1948, Marian and Lavern Rickels were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. Marian spent most of her life working on the farm, side by side with her husband and children.
Marian was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anamosa for more than 50 years, Wapsi Garden Club, was Farm Bureau Woman's chairman, Election Board official and 4-H leader. She enjoyed gardening, canning, square dancing and camping.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
