Rick L. McSpadden, 57, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, June 25, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories and a celebration to follow at the Eagles club in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Monday, June 30 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom.
Rick was born on May 16, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Donald and Janet (Hulseberg) McSpadden. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1986. Rick had been employed as a line worker at International Paper for nineteen years. He enjoyed his work and especially his co-workers. Rick was an avid outdoor enthusiast, taking part in several activities such as mushroom hunting, fishing, gardening, softball, and golfing. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Chicago Cubs. He was a creative person and liked music. Rick loved spending time with his family, especially his siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He will be remembered for his strong moral compass. Rick was a giving person in both his life and after his death. His generous donation through the Iowa Donor Network saved the lives of three people.
Survivors include his children, Nathan McSpadden (Cassie Allee) of Dubuque, Rachael Ballard (Britton) of Wesley Chapel, FL, Ricky McSpadden (Hector Aleman) of Orlando, FL, and Ryan McSpadden of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Brian McSpadden (Michelle) of Cedar Rapids, Sandra Dighton (Stephen) of Cedar Rapids, and Ted McSpadden (Mikki) of Cedar Rapids. Grandchildren, Zander, Zaeden, and Zylan Ballard; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rick was especially close with cousins, Todd Schroeder (Jennifer) and Lisa Johnson (Rex).
Preceding him in death are his parents and older brother, Scott McSpadden.
Memorials may be directed to Safe Haven of Iowa county.
