Richmond “Rich” Smith, 56, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, joined his mother on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023. A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Rich was born March 19, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, the son of William “Bill” and Sheridan “Sherry” (Roberts) Smith. He graduated from Jefferson High School, Class of 1985. Rich worked at TJ Maxx for 15 years. He loved watching sports on TV, especially the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Vikings. Rich was active in the Boy Scouts and earned an Eagle Scout rank. He enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics. Rich found joy in music, especially 80’s rock music and his favorite artist, Elvis Presley.
Survivors include his father, Bill Smith of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Terry Smith and Robyn Carman, both of Cedar Rapids, and Matt (Andrea) Smith of Gig Harbor, Wash.; nieces and nephews, Emily, Nick, Jack, Lilly, Claire and Will; and his beloved cat, Elena.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sherry Smith.
