Richels, Dean
Dean Rickels, 72, of Oxford Junction, formerly of Monticello, died Friday evening, Sept. 9, 2011, at the Mechanicsville Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 9 a.m. The Rev. Judy Paulsen and the Rev. Merle Paulsen will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Monmouth Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Esther; two sons, Scott Rickels, Cedar Rapids, and Matthew Rickels, Mankato, Minn.; three stepsons, Bill (Christy) Campbell, Oxford Junction, John (Sherry) Campbell, Maquoketa, and Allen (Amy) Campbell, Anamosa; nine stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Jane.
Dean H. Rickels was born March 17, 1939, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Lester and Gladys (Koranda) Rickels. Dean graduated from the Monticello Community Schools. He then went on to serve in the United States Navy. Dean worked as an air traffic controller in Minneapolis. Dean married Esther S. Campbell on May 16, 1997, at the Methodist Church in Oxford Junction. The couple made their home in Oxford Mills until they moved to the Mechanicsville Care Center in 2010.
