Richards, Floyd G.
Floyd G. Richards, 81, of North Liberty, and father of Carol Raymer of Coralville, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Private services will be held, with burial in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty.
Floyd was born Oct. 13, 1929, in Greenville, Ohio, the son of Russell and Ethel (Brinley) Richards. He was united in marriage to Jean Wachtler in Omaha, Neb., May 21,1955. Floyd served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Command in Omaha during the Korean War.
He worked as a design and manufacturing engineer until his retirement. The couple moved to North Liberty in 2005.
Floyd was an avid model airplane builder since childhood. He also enjoyed sailing his radio control sailboat with friends.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Jean Richards; son, Michael (Laurie) Richards of Omaha; and daughter, Carol (Tim) Raymer of Coralville; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Zachary) Keller, Abby Raymer, Melanie Raymer, Andrew Raymer, Leah Richards, Grant Richards and Bryan Perkins; and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Keller and Scarlett Keller.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rolland; and a sister, Velma Crawford.
