Richard Van Horbeck, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories stateroom. Interment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the family to be used for a memorial at a golf course of the family's choice.
Richard was born Sept. 22, 1939, to Maurice and Irene Van Hamme-Van Horbeck in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He grew up in Belle Plaine. He worked his entire career as a material inspector for the state of Iowa.
Rich provided many laughs with his dry humor and witty punch lines. His family believes he was brought into this world to remind us to not take life so seriously. He will be remembered for his passion for golf and the permanent smile on his face.
Rich will be missed by his sisters, Charlene (John) Pickart and Maureen (Ron) Kern; sons, Tyler (Chris) and Todd (Deanna) Van Horbeck; grandchildren, Kendal (Nick) Baker, Emilie (Josh) Inglebright, Taylor and London Van Horbeck; great-grandchildren, Adeline Inglebright, Jaidyn, Brayton and Roczen Baker; and former spouse, Judith Graham.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
