Richard Willet Trask, 89, of Shellsburg, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital under the care of hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Calvary Baptist Church, 5338 Johnson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, officiated by the Rev. Jay Jentink. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Stateroom. Interment with military honors will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Richard was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Clarence and Byrle (Edwards) Trask. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Doris Lorraine Theobald on April 25, 1953, in Muscatine. To this union, three sons were born.
Richard worked as a test technician at Rockwell from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was active in the Awana Club. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, and was especially skilled at the scroll saw. He liked listening to organ music, working in his garden and he thoroughly enjoyed his retirement.
Richard is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Doris; sons, Terry Trask of New Sharon and Michael Trask of Urbana; four grandchildren, Nick, Erik, Angie and Richard; eight great-grandchildren, and siblings, Robert, Duane, Danny and Judy Trask.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randall Trask; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Trask.
