Richard "Chuck" Sutton, 84, formerly of Central City and Anamosa, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, in the Joan and Ed Hemphill Hospice unit at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. Chuck was an eye donor and donated his body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy for further study.
Celebration of Life services will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, at Wapsi Country Club in Anamosa. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Above and Beyond Hospice.
Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Surviving are nine children, Dave Sutton of Newhall, Craig Sutton and fiancee Wendy Miller-Smith of Burbank, Calif., Jay Worden of Bolingbrook, Ill., Jon (Karen) Worden of Manchester, Mick Worden of Denver, Colo., Mark (Laurie) Worden of Cedar Rapids, David Worden of Cedar Rapids, Erin Worden of Marion and Eric (Sandy) Worden of Aurora, Colo.; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Melisa, Justine and Candace Sutton, AJ and Joe Worden, Angie Schmitz and Isabelle and Avery Schmitz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Janice and Patricia; two brothers, Herman and Walter; and two sisters, Hazel Shepard and Eula Carpenter.
Richard Charles Sutton was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Newton, Iowa, son of Walter and Lizzie (Robinson) Sutton. Richard "Chuck" graduated from Huxley, Iowa, schools in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Chuck then attended a printing school in California.
He married Janice Madsen on July 9, 1959, and then moved to Central City, Iowa, in 1968 after purchasing the Linn News-Letter. Janice and Chuck were very active in the Central City community. Janice preceded him in death in April 1982. He married Patricia Hale Worden on Aug. 4, 1986.
Chuck retired in 1993 from the Iowa Prison Industries Print Shop. Chuck and Pati became winter Texans soon after his retirement. She preceded him in death in April 2009.
Chuck was a member of the Anamosa Masonic Lodge, AMVETS, former member of Anamosa Trees Forever and Adobe Wells, Texas, board member.
Chuck loved gardening, woodworking, traveling, trying to visit and take pictures of all the state capitals and hanging with the guys in the Fawn Creek Condo workshop.
