Richard "Dick" Stevens, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at his home on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, after a short illness. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Marion Christian Church, by the Rev. Peter Mitchell, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa) Stevens and Heather (Edward) Bertch; great-grandchildren, Baine and Caden Bertch; daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Jim) Harrison; siblings, Gerald Stevens and Maxine Grosse; three stepsons, Monte, Von and Scott Hollingsworth; step-daughter, Sally Korbel; six stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; and also many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian; three children, Kathleen, David and Dennis; and his siblings, Mildred, Doris, Dorothy, Robert, Bethel, Don and Floyd.
Richard was born Dec. 11, 1919, in Ohiowa, Neb., to Clinton and Amy (Mumford) Stevens. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. Richard was a U.S. Air Force veteran during World War II. He married Lillian Rote, who passed away in 2000. Richard then married Teresa Hollingsworth on Nov. 26, 2005, at St. Joseph Church in Marion.
He was employed for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. Richard was a member of the Marion Christian Church, Marion Lions Club and American Legion Post 735 of Hiawatha.
He had a kind heart and was a true gentleman.
