RICHARD ROBERT (DICK) ROSEBERRY

Richard Robert (Dick) Roseberry, 87, passed away at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, Fla., on Sept. 11, 2016, after battling neck cancer.
Dick was born April 14, 1929, in Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death in June 2007 by his loving wife of 55 years, Billie Dawn (Lebkisher) Roseberry. He is survived by his two children, Richard (Rick) and Dana Roseberry, both of Cape Coral. He was the eldest of two children, and is survived by his brother, Stanley Leroy Roseberry, of Flossmoor, Ill. He also is survived by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Dick was a 1946 Roosevelt High School and a 1951 University of Iowa graduate. He participated in ROTC and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers upon graduation. He served in the Korean War and was promoted to first lieutenant before his honorable discharge in 1954. Dick married the love of his life, Billie, on Aug. 16, 1952.
Dick always was a loyal Hawkeye and, after moving to Florida in 1996, he was the founder and first president of the Paradise Iowa Club in Southwest Florida. The club has earned several awards for the best Iowa Club, and Dick was named Iowa volunteer of the year by the alumni association several times. Dick also was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals supporter, holding season tickets with both teams for decades.
Dick was an active member of the Instrument Society of America (ISA), which bestowed upon him one of its highest honors – the Distinguished Society Service Award. He was an avid golfer who finally hung up his clubs after his first hole-in-one. Dick also was an enthusiastic genealogist, and has traced the family tree back to England in the 1100s. He found a distant relative who had arrived on the Mayflower and had signed the Mayflower compact.
Dick will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
