Richard "Dick" Ralph Plocher, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, by Pastor Bonnie
Koeppen. Friends may visit with the family after 9 a.m. at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Donna; his sons, Terry (Robyn) Plocher of Reinbeck and Orrin (Cristina) Plocher of McKinleyville, Calif.; three grandchildren, Amber Heston, Alex Plocher and Richard "Richie" Plocher; one great-grandchild, Noah M. Heston; two sisters, Rita Dockery of Spring, Texas, and Ruby Bennett of Blaine, Minn.; one brother, Ronald (Carol) Plocher of Rockford, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Alfred Dockery and Ronald Bennett.
Richard was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Carver, Minn., the son of Ralph and Ruth Bruhn Plocher. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1958 to 1961. On June 10, 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Donna Eivins in Colorado Springs, Colo. He worked as an auto mechanic, service manager and, for 28 years in service and sales with JMC Automotive Equipment in Hopkins, Minn.
He was raised in the Moravian Church and was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. Richard volunteered for Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Matthew 25 and various other organizations in the community. Richard loved woodworking, making jewelry and counted cross-stich.
Richard's family invites all who have received Richard's handmade jewelry to wear it to the memorial service.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mark's United Methodist Church Building Fund or Miracles Can Happen Boys Ranch, Wilton, Iowa.
