RICHARD LEE OLMSTEAD SR.
Hiawatha
Richard Lee Olmstead Sr. of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away July 3, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center.
Richard Lee Olmstead was born Jan. 8, 1945, the son of Edward and Eileen Olmstead. Richard served in the Army from November 1963 to December 1967. He worked at ABC Disposal in Hiawatha for 23 years. After retirement, he went back to work at Sam's Club for 13 years.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Susan M. (Franks) Olmstead; two daughters, Brenda (Steve) Olmstead of Marion and Pam (Jamie) Moeller of Anamosa; a daughter-in-law, Becky of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Kathie (Jake) Rowray, Marilyn (Derek) Mittan and Ginny Espe; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Richard was an amazing father, an even better grandpa and Crazy PaPa. He had a huge heart with an great sence of humor. Everybody who had the pleasure of meeting him loved him.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Lee Olmstead Jr.; and a granddaughter, Marissa.
A celebration of life will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at the American Legion in Hiawatha.
