Richard Nye
RICHARD NYE Cedar Rapids Richard Nye, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully, with his wife at his side, in Arizona on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017. He was 80 years old. Richard was born July 9, 1937, in Cedar Rapids. He married Jeanne Finlayson in 1956, and after two years of Army service, he returned home, where he worked for the Quaker Oats Co. for over 30 years. After Jeanne's death in 2003, he met and married Anne Hoffmann of Omaha, Neb. After 11 years of building a fused-glass art business together, they moved to Coolidge, Ariz., to help start the Artisan Village of Coolidge. Richard was active in his church, led Royal Ranger groups, taught motorcycle safety courses and loved to travel. He enjoyed fixing and building things and always was available to lend a helping hand. Richard is survived by his wife, Anne; his children, Val Beer of Cedar Rapids and Rick Nye of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. The family will greet visitors beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at First Assembly of God Church. Celebration of Life services will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Artisan Village of Coolidge, 351 N. Arizona Blvd., Coolidge, AZ 85128 (www.artisanvillageofcoolidge.org/donations).
